A bride and groom in front of the Grand Teton mountains

Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club Wedding in June

This wedding at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club was a wedding like a modern-day fairy tale set against the backdrop of the majestic Grand Teton National Park.

The couple met while interning in Washington, DC through The Washington Center in the summer of 2012. Right away, they felt a spark and got to know each other on their long runs around the Capitol building and other national monuments. They bonded over their love of travel, culture, and the outdoors. They explored several DC museums with friends, but their first official date was on at a TexMex restaurant (true to the bride's Texan roots) on the Potomac River which ended in a rainstorm. They were having so much fun that they decided to stay through the storm and hide from the rain under the small awning. By the end of the summer, they decided that dating long distance from Michigan to Texas, and then Michigan to France when the bride studied abroad for a semester, was the right move. After dating across borders for a year and a half and earning many frequent flier miles in between, he moved down to Austin, Texas to be with her.

HOW HE PROPOSED
He always knew that he was going to propose to her in Washington, DC in front of a small red brick grotto on the US Capitol lawn because it was where they had spent time relaxing after their runs the first summer they met. In April 2018, he took her to the Capitol lawn for a surprise picnic and walked her over to the grotto. Beforehand, he had asked a close mutual friend, to happen to walk by during their picnic and capture the moment. While posing for photos, he dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring! After popping a celebratory bottle of champagne, they drove out to the Chesapeake Bay for a romantic getaway. They announced the exciting news with friends when they returned to the District.

WHY JACKSON HOLE
The bride's family has ties to the area, and she and her family visited every summer growing up. Both being avid outdoorsy types, they have spent time every summer here since they've been together. The natural beauty and tranquility, not to mention the amazing hiking, gives Jackson Hole and the Tetons a special place in their hearts. It has become a place to disconnect to reconnect with themselves, with nature, and with each other. They visited Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis and knew immediately that was the spot to get married near the base of the Grand Tetons.
